The Becker Lab website is no longer active, but I’m keeping it available as an archive to honor the work and accomplishments of our alumni. For more information, please feel free to contact me directly.

Welcome to the virtual Becker Lab!

Thanks so much for checking out the Becker Lab at the University of Washington Tacoma, in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Our specific focus is the study of bivalve larvae, also known as baby shellfish. Unlike the familiar adult stage of oysters, mussels, and clams, this microscopic stage is mobile and a critical, vulnerable period for these commercially important animals. We think they’re pretty cute, too.

Since our main motivation is the conservation of coastal biodiversity, we are very interested in engaging in dialogue with students, the public, and the scientific community. Check out our current projects, our bios, and our public outreach materials, and come back to check out our blogs, or connect with us through social media (see the snazzy icons at the bottom of this page). We’d love to hear from you.
