Megan in the fieldIn the Becker Lab, we have been very lucky to have two great scientists who have been with us for many years. But if I’m doing my job right, they eventually move on to bigger things. So with great pride, and a little sadness, we have some announcements to make.

Megan Hintz has accepted a job as a shellfish biologist for the Lummi Tribe. Megan has been with us, with a few breaks here and there, since she was an undergraduate in 2012. She is adding the finishing touches to her MS thesis at SAFS, doing some remaining analyses for our project, and then she will move on. We are thrilled that she found a job that overlaps so perfectly with her interests.

Michelle in the fieldMichelle McCartha has realized her dream of starting graduate school, working with Dr. Shawn Arellano at Western Washington University. Michelle has also been with us almost continuously since her undergrad years in 2012. She has served as our lead technician for quite a while and has been instrumental in keeping our lab and projects running. She’s the artist behind our very own lab logo! She’s going to spend the next few months finishing up some papers and then will be moving up.

Both Michelle and Megan have contributed so much, not only to our work, but also to our lab family. They have mentored many students and volunteers, and have watched my own kids grow up. We will miss them terribly, but can’t wait to see all they will achieve. Congratulations to you both!
