Webinar: Introduction to Supply Chain Management

On March 15, 2004, Dr. Benita Beamon presented a webinar entitled “Introduction to Supply Chain Management”. This webinar included dozens of participants from Humanitarian Relief Organizations around the world.

Summary: The objectives of this presentation are: (1) to provide a general introduction to supply chain management (SCM), including basic challenges, modeling, and the elements of supply chain design, and (2) to highlight some of the critical similarities and differences between commercial logistics and humanitarian logistics. Topics in performance measurement include a framework for performance measurement selection in SCM and characteristics of effective measurement systems. The discussion concludes by comparing and contrasting commercial and humanitarian logistics.
