I’m an assistant professor at the Department of Linguistics, University of Washington. My main research interests lie in the intersection of theoretical phonology, phonological typology, and the theory of sound change.  Using statistical and experimental techniques, I try to estimate which aspects of phonological typology are primarily influenced by diachronic factors and which aspects primarily by synchronic factors/learnability.
