Stefan Baums
I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate and teacher in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature of the University of Washington in Seattle. Together with the other members of the Early Buddhist Manuscripts Project, I investigate recently discovered Buddhist manuscripts written in the Kharoṣṭhī and Brāhmī scripts. My particular focus is on the body of previously unknown commentarial and scholastic texts that comprise a large part of the new discoveries. I am co‐editor of the Gāndhārī Dictionary (funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities). I am also engaged in the study of the collection of ancient Indian coins with Kharoṣṭhī and early Brāhmī inscriptions in the National Museum of Denmark (Nationalmuseet, Den kongelige Mønt‐ og Medaillesamling), and contribute to a research project on Gandhāran reliquaries at the Royal Ontario Museum and to the study and paleographic description of Buddhist manuscripts in the Schøyen Collection.
