I wish to bring to your attention two memos which describe an initiative which may lead to the creation of a new college on the Seattle campus. This proposal surfaced over the summer and has not yet been fully developed or vetted by all of our faculty and staff.

The first memo describes the Provost's proposal to create a new College of the Environment and summarizes her reasoning. The second memo describes how our College could seize this opportunity to strengthen its position as a leader in natural resources and environmental sustainability.

I look forward to future discussions on this topic and welcome your thoughts and comments. We will briefly touch on this at our upcoming retreat on September 25. Thanks and best wishes.
