Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

Just a note to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for all of the support you provided during my eight years in the Dean's Office. These were exciting times and, together, we accomplished much.

Our College now offers two contemporary, and well-subscribed, undergraduate academic majors along with highly sought graduate degree programs. The strengths of these programs were recently recognized during the review conducted by the Graduate School. We also were very fortunate to add fourteen outstanding new faculty who have already made numerous contributions throughout the College. Our faculty and staff continue to work closely with many professional groups across the State and region and these relationships bring recognition and many benefits to our College and the University. Lastly, our College continues to enjoy a strong financial foundation, in part due to our successful capital campaign wherein we added new faculty chairs and professorships, new student scholarships and fellowships, increased program support, and funding for new buildings and facilities.

Now, as our College is converted into a school in the College of the Environment, we begin a new chapter in our 102 history at the UW. I am confident that our strategic vision and core values will continue to serve us well as this transition progresses.

Having the opportunity to lead the College has been the highlight of my forty years of service to the University. I plan to continue my contributions by advising Interim Dean Hartmann and our School's leadership to build a stronger School of Forest Resources and a successful College of the Environment.

I ask that you extend to Tom and Steve the same courtesy and support that you have given to all of us in the Dean's Office over the past eight years. We have many challenges and opportunities ahead, but I believe that we will achieve success, as we have in the past, through hard work, visionary thinking, and a determination to be successful.

Thanks to all and best wishes.

B. Bruce Bare, Dean
