Latin
510 (Tacitus). Assignment
for Week 7 (T 11/17 and Th 11/19)
Germania 28-46. It would be helpful to have finished reading the Germania by Tuesday, even if only in translation. YouÕll want your maps handy, I think!
TuesdayÕs report: Alberto on the reception of the Germania
ThursdayÕs report: Lissa on Tacitus and Vergil
We'll finish up this week our consideration of the Germania, and as part of that process, and as I mused about the other day, please read for Tuesday either in English with an eye on the Latin or in Latin Caes. Gal. 6.11-28, esp. 21ff., considering the ways in which T.'s account of the Germans resembles or does not resemble Caes.'s. Caesar is readily available online through Perseus (on this main page, to the right in the box called 'Popular Texts', you'll see a direct link to the English and Latin texts of the Gallic Wars) or through the Latin Library (Latin only); this is not a long passage.
Come prepared to present your results/reflections.
Also: think about the end of the Germania. How does it compare with the ending of the Agricola? Explanations?
